I invited you to think about three questions
What do you want to create in 2024?
How will you feel when you get there?
What will you be doing differently?
I hope you had fun with it, we get to allow this to be playful and you can get curious about what came up for you…perhaps its related to a goal that you have focused on for a while, or perhaps something new came up, how big did you let it get?
Once we have a focus on what we desire to create we are often encouraged to jump straight to planning the how or perhaps you have been told to look at creating affirmations to focus on what you want to create.
While both of these have merit and value I believe there is an important next step one where we build our belief in ourselves
Old habits die hard and working in Public Health for many years I was trained to start with the evidence, and our brains work in similar ways.
Affirmations are great but if we don’t do the evidence work first to believe what we are saying is possible they can feel hollow.
So my questions for you this week are
where do you already have experience of succeeding?
where have you already done hard things?
what are the skills and characteristics that you already have from your experiences so far which will support you?
Don’t skip this step because you are undervaluing what you do... in fact if that is where your thoughts were going I encourage you to double down on this step
You see what I often see happening in people who come to work with me is that they have a vision for their lives… when they speak it out the light up, I get those goose-bumps when we talk about what this would look like and who that desire to become… and it feels tangible I can SEE them already as the best version of themselves…
.. and often along the way in the journey they have got stuck in comparison, focusing and placing value on the skills and strengths of others and undervaluing themselves…
This can lead to slowing things down… doubting ourselves … paying for courses and programmes to learn the skills we see in others only to realise it’s not what you want to do anyway. (I see you because I have taken this to a pro level and have an Epidemiology Masters to prove it!)
What I have learned is that slowing down at this stage can save us time and money in the long run.
Pay attention to what you have already done, recognise the skills that your experience has given you and feel it in your body.
When we do this we give the brain the evidence it is looking for, strengthening the connections in the brain and building our belief in ourselves … the perfect spring board to a new goal.
So spend some time this week connecting to all your successes, list all your skills and tell the stories about how these have helped you get you where you are now… get clear on the impact you have had on the people around you, feel how that felt, the big and the small. Write a brag post in your journal
This is definitely a more is more type of task so keep going and if you are struggling to get started drop me a message and I can help
